Fundraising for Recent Disasters
We are most appreciative of the outpouring of compassion for the victims of the recent disasters in Haiti. Many community groups have stepped forward to raise much needed funds for disaster relief efforts. The following groups are involved in approved fundraising efforts for the Haiti Relief Efforts, Red Cross International Response Fund and/or the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.
On Kauai:
Hearts for Haiti, March 14 at the Kilohana Luau Pavilion, 4:00pm - 9:30pm
On Oahu:
"Island to Island for Haiti" (February 12, 2010) event at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Great Lawn with food, fireworks, and top entertainment like Cecilio & Kapono, Amy Hanaiali'i, Raiatea Helm, Jimmy Borges, and Tihati Productions.
Other Information
The Hawaii State Chapter of the American Red Cross is an independent, non-profit organization that relies on the generosity and aloha of Hawaii’s people for its financial support. We are not a government agency; voluntary contributions are the key to our ability to respond when help can't wait. The percentage of income Red Cross spends on direct services consistently ranks it among the nation's most well-managed non-profit organizations, according to Charity Navigator and SGS, which tracks the performance of non-governmental organizations.
We offer many different opportunities for people to donate to the Hawaii State Chapter of the American Red Cross.
Some of our donors provide gifts of stock, bequests, memorial gifts on behalf of a loved one(s), or participate in programs we offer such as our Tiffany Circle or Restaurant Campaign.
Some organizations want to hold an event and make the Red Cross in Hawaii the designated beneficiary. In these cases, coordination does need to be made with Red Cross staff prior to the event being held.

Tax-Free IRA Charitable Rollover is Back!
The federal government is preserving a key tax advantage for charitable giving. The IRS has extended until December 31, 2009, legislation that allows a gift to a non profit from an IRA to count toward required minimum distributions and be excluded from gross income – in other words, a tax-free rollover.
For an IRA gift to qualify for benefits under this extension, the following criteria apply:
Please Contact Betty Mastrantonio at 808-739-8108 at mastrantoniob@hawaiiredcross.org for more information on ways your planned gift can make a difference and improve your financial outlook.
*Please be sure to seek out the advice of your tax advisor, attorney, or finacial planner to make certain a contemplated gift fits into your overall circumstances and planning.
