Nurse Aide Training Program
We run classes all year ‘round.  We offer day and evening sessions.  Sessions vary depending upon the location and run for a total of 130 hours.  Courses are held on Oahu, in Hilo and Kona.  As an example, the Oahu day session runs for 6 weeks, held Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00am to 3:00pm.  The night session runs for nine weeks and is also held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5pm to 9pm.  Limited time and spaces available at all sites! The objective of the Nurse Assistant training course is to provide students with the basic fundamentals for safe and knowledgeable caregiving as a nurse assistant in the long-term healthcare setting. The course includes both lecture and laboratory work (91 hours) and clinical experience (46 hours).

Approximately 40 (hands-on) nurse assistant procedures will be taught in the classroom lab sessions. During the last week, students will apply their classroom learning in a clinical setting.

Nurse Assistant Review Course - (currently not offered)
This class will identify and review the essential information and skills that a Nurse Assistant is required to have in order to care for residents in a nursing home.

The course was designed for candidates planning to take the State of Hawaii Nurse Assistant Competency Evaluation Exam. To be eligible, you must have done one of the following and provide proof at the time of registration:
• Have taken and failed the competency evaluation exam one or more times; or
• Completed a Nurse Assistant Training course within the last 6 months, and did not take the competency evaluation exam

Nurse Assistant Training Instructor's Course

The Nurse Assistant Training Instructor's Course consists of a pre-course session and a five-session instructor course that includes practice teaching. The basic requirements are to have a current and valid RN license for the State of Hawaii, with a background in education or training, and experience in long-term care.

Nurse Assistant Competency Evaluation Exam

To become a CNA in Hawaii, the American Red Cross administers the Nurse Assistant Competency Evaluation Exam for the State of Hawaii. Testings are held regularly in the Red Cross building several times per week, and also held in conjunction with State-Approved Nurse Aide Training Schools for their students.
