American Red Cross administers State Exam and Manages the CNA Registry
The American Red Cross, Hawaii State Chapter currently maintains the contracts to deliver the Nurse Assistant Competency Examination for the State of Hawaii under the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Licensing Division. Along with the responsibility to administer the examination process, the Red Cross maintains the registry that collects all information pertaining to every CNA in Hawaii and performs the following services:
� Processes application for examination,
� Scores and documents all testing results,
� Provides prompt mailing of all new certificates to CNAs within 10 working days of the examination,
� Mail-out notices to CNAs for recertification,
� Process state-to-state reciprocity request.
� Provide CNA verification status for employers,
FEES FOR TESTING (effective 3/1/10)
� All checks must be imprinted.
� Temporary Checks are not accepted
� Check must include phone number
� If paying with Purchase Order, the P.O. must accompany the application.
� To become certified the student must pass both parts of the two-part test. If a student fails any part of the test, he/she must wait 30 days before retesting.
� If the student fails the first part (skills test) of the 2-part test, he/she must retake the skills test and must pay for that portion of the test ($150) again. The $90 for the written test will be kept on credit until the student completes the skills test.
� If the student fails the second part (written test) he/she must retake the written test and must pay for that portion of the test ($90) again.

CNAs are notified by mail 3 months prior to their expiration date. The CNA must be paid at least one day of CNA-related work and that work must be verified for the last 24 consecutive months. CNAs working in Medicare/Medicaid Skilled Nursing Facilities are not required to pay for their recertification. CNAs working in Group 2, Health Care Settings must be verified by an eligible employer and complete a competency/proficiency evaluation at a DHS State-approved training program, and submit the recertification form with the fee.
